Wage Protection System (WPS) is a system launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) in the UAE. When employees are paid salaries, the employers are expected to report to the ministry, the amount paid for salaries paid to employees, and any leaves employees have taken. This reporting mechanism was set to ensure that employees’ rights are protected and that salaries are paid by employers on time to employees.
If an employer is found non-compliant the employer may not be able to hire new workers or renew existing permits.
Similar systems have been launched by countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, the common objective is again to ensure timely payment
