There is no shortage of solutions in today’s marketplace. Some are cloud based, some are on-premise, some are hybrid and the list goes on. Interesting not many solutions, fit the bill of an all-inclusive business-driven process-based solution, rather they are software that is marketed to address a specific need addressed for a specific scenario or scenarios.
Very often you would find that many HR and Payroll solutions would have many features, when it comes to having data records, payroll configuration settings, pay component records and so on, except that they only address a specific need. A classic example would be a solution that may seem to have everything, but a crucial feature of actually processing the payroll, could be missing, it is also possible, when you try out the demo, they even have fields to store data related to payroll configuration, i.e. monthly payroll cycle dates and so on, which would make you assume that this data would be used for payroll processing, which you would rightly believe the solution has, but it may turn out that they may not actually have the payroll component at all, rather they integrate with other vendors, which specifically do payroll processing.
This is just the tip of the iceberg example, well the above scenario may be great, but, it adds to cost, coordination of implementation with 2 different vendors and the list of complexities and sophistication can differ, depending on the size and other factors of the organization. Lastly, if the 2 vendors don’t really get along in the future, together, you will be forced to choose another one, for either of the functions. To put it simply, the nuts are in one solution the bolts are in the other solution. If for any reason they divorce your business process is at risk.
